I wonder if the model will begin to play as many musical tunes as the full scale "model"?
Need the Lew........

As Graham says it's a fantastic place, I was captivated by it as a primary school boy back in the 80's when the BBC broadcast the 'Little train to Lynton' programs. My best friend at primary school was equally as interested and despite the monumental effort it would require to rebuild any part of the L&B, there was no Manning Wardle surviving in this country or that only 1 coach was in regular use back then it was always a dream to experience this wonderful little line.Accucraft UK:95237 wrote:The 'new' L & B is really going places, the restored coaches are works of art and they expect to steam the new 'Lyn' in December 2015!ace:95230 wrote:Considering the L&B is only an hour or so away from me, it would be rude not to pay a visit.

Both having moved away from our home town many moons ago it was a great day when we drove down in 2010 to enjoy a run behind a Manning Wardle in an original L&B coach from Woody Bay on the gala weekend.
Back to 16mm world. Ace, I was comparing the Manning Wardles but as you quite rightly say the Baldwin had less wheels, wooden cab bar frames etc.
Matt, seems very controllable to me, not over sensitive to me. The Gas burner is a new design so it is far less noisy than the old accucraft ones.

The night freight clip was just full of atmosphere. A great advert for garden railways in general and for the wonderful model in particular. I bet the L&B and the Southern wished they'd had need to run such substantial freight trains.
The L&B is a wonderful railway, quite unique. I can only aspire to affording a loco like that but it has now gone on my 'ultimate goal' list. Thanks for sharing the clips with us.

Although I do not own an L&B, I can confess that our NGG16 tends to do this on a regular basis!BTW: Has any other Accucraft L&B owner discovered that this loco "automatically" uses the cow catcher to demonstrate whether the track has any unexpected bumps in it, or that level crossing "roads" across the sleepers have been built 1mm or so too high
The trouble is, one of our members owns an L&B, and compared to the Garratt, there is LOADS of clearance!
We now use the Garratt for "Bush Bashing" duties to trim the undergrowth!

That´s it then. I´ll send the Garratt round, before trying the L&B in futureJMORG:97665 wrote:Although I do not own an L&B, I can confess that our NGG16 tends to do this on a regular basis!BTW: Has any other Accucraft L&B owner discovered that this loco "automatically" uses the cow catcher to demonstrate whether the track has any unexpected bumps in it, or that level crossing "roads" across the sleepers have been built 1mm or so too high

Ian for some reason used to set his cow catchers at 2mm above rail height, 1.5" above rail hight scaled up, as Ian used 7mm scale drawings for the Pearse engineering loco and 2mm was the hight used there. I assume this should telly have been scaled up to 4mm but for some reason wasn't. Now I'm not sure what height they are set at on Lyd/NG16/W&L hunslet but at 4mm this would give 3" clearance on the full size locos.laalratty:97694 wrote:The cow catchers on all virtually all Accucraft locos are too low I believe, hence problems with any locos that have them fitted on bumpy track. I know of at least one company that will raise them for you to the correct scale height.
When Accucraft built the second batch of Manning Wardles one of the alterations from the first batch was the raising of the cow catchers to give roughly 4mm clearance. Mine had been fitted with a first batch front buffer beam & catcher after it was built, so lowering it to 2mm again. After a couple of prangs, mainly with points and catch rails David Mees at AbbeyBach engineering lifted it to match the cab end one and she runs fine now.

The plan is BR mixed traffic livery like Lyd, but under the theory of Lew moving to my line when the L&B closed. Can't believe people thought she went to Brazil........kandnwlr:98964 wrote:Are you planning to do any lining out? I have to admit that she looks good in black, though  :D  :o
