As per title a 45mm version of the Locolines Ivor kit, sat on 32mm track. Just thought you'd like to see it! Note I have added cylinder detailing on the front end of the frames.

Nice 'un. My brother offered to buy me that for my 21st birthday - so that he could build it. I declined much as I love Ivor the Engine. I offered to go Dutch on it with him though. Both saving up the money. Just a shame that both my Bluebell and Idris toys are too big for the scale.

As my sister has aluded to- I want one! looks great! Thats going to look interesting with the model Pickering carriage on the WHR shop railway, or have you opted to get the cardboard carriage kit off the locolines website

The link doesn't work, probably run it with the VofR van I built.

I'd be interested in your views of building this kit, as I got one at Merstham but it is 2nd in the queue after the Wickham I've just started.

I'm not impressed with the quality of the resin castings, and I only got one buffer beam lamp (as currently shown on his website & instructions illustration). The pipe for the boiler has actually been roughly cut and is actually less than the 80mm length required. How easy is it to sand the chimney & steam chest to fit the boiler? What paint did you use as it looks a bit off colour?

Any reason for not fitting the cab steps?

I've downloaded the instructions & jpegs for the free coach kit (upper case F required in URL). If you PM me your e-mail address I'll e-mail them to you. I've had problems accessing the Locolines website some times, and indeed it was unavailable as I started typing this, and is now available again including the free coach web page.

As I'm sure you are aware Rob Bennett has produced Edwin Jones the Steam that comes with the kit, Dai Station, Idris the Dragon & Evan Evans the Song (although not updated on his website yet).

Available from here - http://www.7-8ths.info/busybody/Ivor.html I think he was selling them painted for £5.00 at the recent Merstham show.

It is just a pity that you have to paint Edwin Jones the Steam as he was painted on display on Rob's stall.

Nice work there Billy :D I like the extra underframe detail and paitned wheels, they make a big difference to the overall appearence - for me, one of the big drawbacks to Locolines kits its that they rely on IP chassis, which weren't really desinged for steam locos and, IMHO, just don't look right under them in most cases...

that they rely on IP chassis
Actually this kit, and the Wickham as well, use a motor mounted with a plastic gearbox, and the chassis is 2 sides of a plastic strip which needs cutting to size and drilled for 2 axles, and is held together with cardboard spacers. Steel wheels are provided with Ivor (plastic with the Wickham) and the kit includes decorative wheel trims for Ivor. So it is not an IP Eng chassis used. Looks like William has painted the wheels black, Locolines has painted theirs green on the website & instructions illustration.

I meant Locolines kits generally rather than specifically the Ivor; the IP chassis is reccommended on their site for Prince, Tiny and the Quarry Hunslet kits.

They will be available in a forum 'article' to be written in the future. Although to save you agro with your 32mm gauge chassis I shall post the following.
"I made my chassis spacers from the off cuts of supplied to different dimensions of the 32mm ones supplied, I also made some different gearbox spacers from cereal box card so that the gearbox sides were flush with the motor, using the card supplied for this job made the frames to wide apart for 28mm back-to-backs and the trolley failed the points test as well as being a bad runner due to the wheels rubbing on the frames."
I posted this on the G Scale Mad forum

They are suppose to have a 'Cartoony' feel, a bit iof filling won't do them any harm. I got two lamps, I fitted two lamps!

A loooong job, do it outside with a dremel and wear a dust mask, it really stinks and is VERY dusty.
CCairns wrote:What paint did you use as it looks a bit off colour?
And that's after I added some white, the paint is recomended in the instructions, I'm building this one and a friend is also in the middle of one, and he bought some paint so I just had a sample.

Yes, I forgot!! Now fitted, I have put a toggle switch in one of them to replace the rubbish switch supplied.

Thanks for your prompt replies William.

I intend making a rolling chassis for my Wickham, using the supplied plastic strip plus some plastic from old CD cases. Unlike Peter Longfils' Wickham, I intend to fit the motor upright, but the seat bottom will need cutting out first as this rolling chassis will be complete with the battery box. I've also got a toggle switch which will stick up through the control panel and look like a gear change/ direction change lever.

Once I've sorted this out for the Wickham, I'm sure I'll do something similar for the Ivor.

Thanks for the warning about the wheel spacing, will look at that very closely before glueing up!

Great Stuff William, and a very appropriate setting.

But where is Edwin Jones the Steam - off for a cup of tea, talking with Dai Station, listening to Evan Evans the Song, or is he looking for Idris the Dragon? Poor Ivor must be lonely without them!

I don't feel confident in painting him so it is going to be done by a fellow WHR volunteer, soon I'm hoping.
