lubricator hole size

I know roundhouse have changed to using thinner oil recently, does the hole size in the lubricator pipe indicate which one to use? Mine appears to be 1mm or perhaps a tad smaller.

Don't know about the old ones., but current production lubricators have a 0.5mm oil hole in the steam line. Easiest way to measure it is to the test the size using a drill shank, if you have a set of fine drills in 0.1mm increments.

The lighter 220 oil is claimed to reduce the formation of char, preventing eventual blockage of the superheater line. The larger hole used in the past will make the loco more oil if running with 220 oil, but that can be controlled by fitting a piece of wire in the hole to reduce the oil flow.

Graeme
