IP Engineering Jane burner

Post by Paul H » Wed Jan 29, 2014 11:08 pm

Greetings,
Does anyone know if the meths burners on IP Janes were soft or silver soldered?

Thanks,
Paul

I think mine was silver soldered but I stand to be corrected.

If it's anything like the Roundhouse ones, the main tube and wick tubes came as a silver soldered assembly, but the meths tank and filler pipe were soft soldered. I know - I built the kit!

How about the overflow, Brian? I have been asked to sit an overflow to a Jane and would prefer not to have any surprises whilst working...

Paul, You could always re-make the burner. good practice for the Irish engine!

Turn the wick tubes from brass bar & bore them out. Fabricate the tank from 0.5mm brass sheet. some 1/8th pipe for the wick tubes to attach to. Silver solder it all together & you'll never have a problem.

The overflow was soft soldered too, as heat from the burner never got anywhere near it!

Keith,
It would be great practice for a certain Irish model...

Unfortunately, this is a new, old stock Jane from one of the first two batches that a friend is just itching to run. He bought it three weeks ago at the big steamup in Diamondhead, Mississippi and it made an express trip to the (carpeted) concrete floor on its third run ever. I have had it stripped down to straighten the bent frames and bodywork, which I am pleased to say has been a complete success. It once again sits square on a piece of glass and runs really smoothly. Hopefully I can fit the overflow tonight and then redeliver it tomorrow.
