Cheddar gas filler valve

Post by pthompson12 » Mon Jan 06, 2014 2:04 pm

Hi there!

I have a bit of a problem at the moment. The gas filler valve on my cheddar Riesa leaks badly during filling and gas gets everywhere. (perhaps to do with the fact it has a sprung nipple)

Forest classics do a suitable replacement( http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FS-NEW-GAS-TA ... 4845b9f9a8) but the problem I have is getting the original out. Unlike the replacement and roundhouse/accucraft valves, the original Cheddar one has slots which are segments of the edge of the circular valve, rather than slots across the diameter

If anyone knows a tool to get out the old valve, advice would be greatly appreciated. (It is also complicated by the fact that the valve is recessed into the tank, so I don't think the roundhouse multitool would work when fitting the replacement)

Thanks

Peter

Quickest way is to file a slot up the centre of a cheap screwdriver to fit. These valves are 0 ringed so not so tight in. If this does not work contact me offline or by telephone and I can stick my little brass jobby in a jiffy bag to you.

Only other thought is that if it is not actually leaking once filled, then it may be because the long filler is not absolutely square. try taking the tank out of the loco and filling on a hard surface using a shorter filler.
