New Coaches for the WVLR

Post by WVLR » Tue Oct 29, 2013 9:12 am

I have decided (at long last) that my railway needs some passenger
rolling stock and having been handed a couple of sketches from a friend
I have come up with these 2 designs.

Both are the same dimensions (270x100x110), the first is a balcony
coach and the second a composite brake van.

I still have some details to finalize but I'll probably plank the roof in
1.5mm thick strip wood and use small bogies with 20mm wheels.

Very nice! I particularly like the balcony carriage. A bogie version of the same would be nice too. I reckon you'd get quite a few takers if you were to offer those commercially.

Looking forward to seeing the finished product,

Andrew.

A bit more work now done on the balcony coach, roof made from
12mm x 1.5mm strip wood and 2mm acrylic for the windows.

I think I made a big mistake in using separate panes for the glazing
I now wish that I'd used a single strip of acrylic glued to the inside
of the frames, it would have been a lot easier and less messy to do.

I made the same error with one of my IP engineering coaches. I cut out the window material into individual frames and fit them to size in the window openings. It didn't turn out as nicely as I had hoped.

Still, yours looks fine from here and I love the shape of those coaches. They look very nice indeed.

The next coach in the range is the observation car, which is loosely
based on the WHHR's Gladstone Coach.
