HGLW diesel lb1 kit

Has anyone made these kits up before?

I know they was made by busted bricks and hglw now make hem.. ordered a body kit lb1 and 4wd chassis kit
The pdf instructions look ok..

Once a bit more cash saved up might look at the coach kits on the same page

You won't have any trouble building these kits.Very well designed and very good value. 4 w.d. is advised and the belt system is much more user friendly than fiddly chains. Would suggest painting the finished kits with waterproof PVA prior to primer and top coat to weather proof them. One of mine has been sitting outside now for a couple of months with no problems showing. Because of the dry spell I've chucked a bucket of water over it now and then! Enjoy.

I got 2 wagons and another wood loco to pva coat and was going to paint both locos with spray cans I have a small spray kit which i might use ) I havent fully decided on colour as yet but red is winning with black chassis and black roof

I also got a slight problem in that the radio set and batterys might not fit inside so was planning now of fitting radio set and battery in a small open wagon and run motor leads from the wagon to the loco. that way I can also use the radio wagon to power 2 other locos which have no room for a radio set.

Gray automotive primer works well on MDF. I've used the rattle cans from Halfords with good results.

strangley enough thats the grey primer I got as I have a halfords trade card it was a bit cheaper..I havent decided on top coat but dark red is winning at the moment with black chassis..
This will be my first kit built for my future permanant railway as so far all my stock has been secondhand bits(even my track is secondhand) my wife would throw a fit if I bought brand new points but she is ok with secondhand cheaper track bought as and when,same for rolling stock..she is really only happy if the bits are nice to look at as she likes the narrow gauge real railways..
once I get the kit I will be doing a write up along with pics and proberbly when i improve it over time

I was a bit premature there. Mines not ordered. Can do it on a smart phone so I thought I d phone it in the morning. Its an 07801 number. Whatever that may be I bet its **** expensive from a mobile. I can phone IP in the morning though !

Made the chassis up as I had a bit of spare time..easy to follow instructions as well,download hem from hglw web page where you ordered the kit from..

A better pic of the bearing fited to the axle showing which way round they fit..

Don forge to fit the drive band on 4wd kits before fully fitting the bearing holders.

Fully assembled chassis,notice the bearing holders now have letter H on them(BB is on busted bricks kit)
At this stage ou will have a free rolling chassis.(the light bits are not broken but just from where the bits are held in the kit

and in satin black.

I painted the wheels as I didnt want silver wheels..I havent fitted the motor yet until I have finished painting..To get to this stage was 2 hours,but it took about 45 mins to build the kit before paint.
I still need to rub down and a final coat and that will do me,Hope to build the body kit over the weekend and is going to be ford radiant red(I like red as well) and fit radio control and get it all working by start of next week..

You probably should have masked off the drive parts before spraying.

I normally put a bit of masking tape on the frames where the axle boxes are attached and then spray before final assembly.

My preference is to paint "in the flat",then touch up as required.

The brass cog I should of mentioned I put a bit of grease on it so the paint wont stick and cleans up ok.. and I did roll the chassis forwards and backwards a few times to make sure everything moves ok..
I did add a bit of grease to the axle bearings before assembly..
Had the chassis running on my temporary track for a hour today and it will push 6 big big tippers easily.

I tested the rc kit at the same time..
I will also add the chassis is much heavier than i expected proberbly the metal wheels help..
I am pretty happy with my kit building .. taking my time on the body over next few days as got to fit all the rc gear under bonnet..

built the body up over past 3 days,didnt do much saturday as little boy had 3rd birthday party..
friday night work.

showing how I got 4AA batterys in the cab along with on/off switch and charging socket(there is a small resistor on the motor so it dont get 6volt)

mini receiver attached under the chassis..

A first trial run still need to fit couplings(I have some metal centre buffer type) and the glazing to fit,A driver most likely a thompson from tin tin with legs cut off so it fits on top of the batterys in the cab, I am fitting a tarp over the doors on the charging socket side so it hides that all up..And it pushed the 2 mamod wagons up the slight hill no problem..and the grill needs fitting..
