Smoke unit: Experiences/Recomendations

Post by JMORG » Thu Feb 28, 2013 5:47 pm

Hi all,
I have a playmobil Steam outline electric, I was thinking about fitting a smoke unit.
It is a plastic model, so would the unit be able to melt/damage the chimney and boiler?
Also, I'm tempted by the LGB unit. Does anyone have another suggestion or is this the best bet.
Many thanks.

Look for smoke generators made by seuthe. They come insulated but I think wrapping some insulting tape around would reduce the heat passed on to your plastic body.

Hope this helps.

Cheers Mr LNER! :)
I got in contact with Seuthe, and they've said that it'll be difficult/impossible to fit a smoke unit to my old playmobil because the plastic will suffer... :(
Darn I'm gonna have to go without!

Hmmmm.... I have seen people fit them into 00 gauge plastic bodies. People have melted the plastic around the smoke unit but the bigger scale loco would have more room in the body. You could replace the chimney with a metal one , if you were so inclined.
