Hunslet Loco Pics - (GRS) 17 Years old

Post by Frank123 » Thu Jan 05, 2012 7:18 pm

Here are a few pictures of my Hunslet loco, which I run whenever I get the chance. (Only indoors though)

Bought from GRS in Princes Risborough, around 17 years ago, the loco was ready to run. The motor chassis is made by Bachmann, while the body was a made up kit, which was attached at the time of purchase.

Also, it came fitted with a smoke stack, so I purchased a few small bottles of Pola oil. The effect was really good and added an extra dimension to the proceedings, as the smoke trailed behind the loco.

It was used on LGB track, mainly indoors and then, once my son reached the age of Playstations and computers etc. it was put back in my display cabinet. Now, as I begin considering future interests, my attention returns to garden railways, so I wanted to post this and see if this type of loco is still available. Who knows, if it is, I might be interested in buying another one!

very nice and yes the GRS kits ...
quarry Hunslet like yours, Hunslet (cabbed version and Peckett,
are still available from GRS at Princesss Risborough (and online), though the Kerr Stuart is on a 3 month waiting list (don't ask ;) )

That does look very much like an LGB/Toytrain "Otto" chassis rather than Bachmann though! :D

Yes, a cabbed version would be nice, so it looks like I will be taking another trip up to GRS then!

As for the chassis, it definitely has 'Bachmann' on it. (The name is moulded within the plastic.) Now I am interested to see the similiarity with the 'Otto' chassis you mentioned.

I also have a couple of LGB/Playmobil chassis, which I plan to use for bodies I have yet to make, one of which will be the 'Tadja' kit from Modeltown. I ordered the kit yesterday, so it should arrive soon.

Thanks for the reply and information. Good news then. I'll start saving my post-Christmas pennies for a new GRS loco!
