Hello,
I've recently convinced a good friend to donate 11m of chaired Tenmille track to the SHR (in return I'm going to build him a 40hp Protected Simplex). This means that during the summer I hope to re-build my railway to a much higher running standard. I shall keep you updated when I get my hands on some track and begin to lay it.

Off the mark now, fortunatley on Tuesday evening my mum picked up the first installment for the re-laying prgoram, I got given 3 straight(ish) sections and a point with long stubs, in exchage for one length of PECO SM32 I had spare

Since then I have stripped off the years worth of grime in order to pull the rails out of the chairs for curving, this has been completed succesfully on one section and I'm leaving the others untill I've decided how much of the track needs curving.
Luckily the other night on another forum I noticed a posting about making a rail bender for a fixed radius out of wood and screws, this was perfect for the purpose I needed it for and after my father redesigned it a bit I set to making it.
45 minuites, one thumb stabbed with a screwdriver & a particulary rubbish TV program later, and we I had made the final adjustments to my rail bender, which allowed me to curve the two rails!
It looks as though the radius is a little sharper than the section of mamod track, this is because there is a certain degree of springiness (new word?) in the brass.
because the sleepers are nailed to battons underneath giving it good strength I'm going to have to chop the sleepers up in to pairs on a neighbours bandsaw for where the track curves, hopfully this'll work out ok.
Having stabbed my hand again with a screwdriver
, I cut the long stubs off the point and dully packed up. As you can see from the above photograph Penrhyndeudraeth Junction is going to see some major changes in the track layout, mainly due to the long radius of the points compared to Mamod ones. Firstly the mainline is going to end up further across than before and there is no longer going to be another siding in the yard (this siding is pointless(not a pun) anyway as if 'Isabelle' is sat on it nothing can be positioned in the other siding!). The point lever needs changing as it collides with most of my stock.
