garden railway dislikes
What part of this hobby do you dislike the most?
For me its got to be electrics because I am totally useless at anything electronic, even the most simple electrical circuits baffle me!

A steam propelled life-style.

the price

Sir haydn
What i dont get is why accucraft discontinued the edrig. Personally i dont like the large size of these locos but it was a good start for the beginner. Now this has been discontinued the Ragleth is hitting just £20 off the price of a Roundhouse Bertie. Surely they have lost a market there and many people will shill out the extra £20 for a british engineered loco.
That is what i hate about it at the moment. Not that it effects me, It was just nice to see the hobby a little more attainable for those with a little less cash.

I can't really think of any dislikes, as for price well these days we are very well off compared to many years ago, endless suppliers of models etc now, then you could only dream of a live steam engine as they were not so afordable relative to wages, it only seemed like the older generation had them (I am now in the older generation and now have a steam engine

Couldn't agree more!Endless, Nameless wrote:Know- it- alls and people with illogical bias (be it to manufacturer, scale, gauge, whatever) who take people to task over it. Fine to have your favourites, less fine to try and force your ideas on others. Bit like religion really
Also, people who dislike Mamods. They still have a place.

I can sympathise with the younger members for whom price is a factor.
My pet hate is LGB with SOUND......... Hearing that stuff at an exhibition sets my teeth on edge!
A story: when I exhibited at my first model railway exhibition, my layout was situated in the same room as a BBC computer on which somebody had spent a great deal of time writing a display program which told the punters all about the exhibition. When it got to the part about refreshments, the programmer had really excelled himself, as the computer played "Polly put the kettle on, we'll all have tea."
This happened every 48 seconds (we timed it).
At the end of the Friday night session, when the proud programmer came to turn is computer off, he nearly got strangled!
On Saturday morning, all was blissfully quiet...............

Probably same as laalratty here. I don't like painting stuff and making buildings - hence why I always go for the ready made, hefty pottery or concrete stuff (cus they last much longer here too!). I also hate it when stuff breaks - hence the MAMODS too.
I also hate the fact there's so much stuff that I like and want, but can't afford

I actually sort of enjoy the painting, its something you can do whilst sat in your front room watching tv! simples!laalratty wrote:Buildings, or more specifically Building's kits, they really do bore me to death, although another pet hate is painting stuff
and the buildings kits I quite enjoy, especially the lineside delight kits, altho the prospect of painting all the detail onto my two signal boxs that I am making at the minute is something I am putting off!
