Accucraft Ruby

Post by pauly » Mon Oct 14, 2013 12:07 am

I know Accucraft still make Ruby albeit an ungraded version but it doesn't seem to be readily supplied by any UK accucraft dealers, I know I could contact a dealer to find this out but before I do does anyone know the UK price for a Ruby if I had one ordered in?

I can't find it on the web

I would imagine that the price should be somewhere around GBP400.00 depending on the dealer's import costs. They are currently about $495-$515 in the USA - then you need to add 20% for VAT.

I bought one from American eBay, it was cheaper than buying one here even with postage. RC is a must, without it they are virtually uncontrollable. You can buy a good little kit to convert it. I did this and have full and very fine control of it. It is just about possible to get it all in the cab.

The newer large cylinder 'Ruby' class locomotives do fine without R/C, though they are fairly nippy, they do not run away like the earlier small cylinder version. However, they may take a little bit of fettling when you first get them so that the valve gear if 'true' otherwise they run away in one direction, and barely move in the other. I converted a small cylinder 'Ruby' to the larger cylinder format to tame it, and since then it has been a reformed character. The dead give away as to which version you have is that the newer larger cylinders are painted black and have a square valve chest parked on top of the cylinder. The older ones look like the usual 'modern' cylinder casting with an integral valve chest, and are usually brass unless they have been attacked with the etch primer.

Cheers,

Im watching one on US eBay right now which needs a little work and the postage is outrageous.

If imported plenty of stuff in the past and over £70 for a little engine like Ruby is crazy
