I finally got the body work finished and the engine put together.
This was the first run of the completed loco
I bought it back in January from ebay. It was in a bit of a state having been sort of stripped for a repaint but this took a while to get really clean. In the end she was stripped to a box of parts and totally rebuilt and painted. I knew that would be the case when I took her on, but surprising how much time this takes. I looked on it as a Katie kit for a lot less money
I fitted radio and sprayed her Coronation Blue so is slightly darker than the way the camera saw it. I'm quite happy wit the result.

The colour in the metal looks great David.
You have done a great job with it. We will get some video footage of it in action next time you are over.

Was it the Gloucester one? I was half interested and made an offer. Having read what you've done it probably wouldn't have been a first good buy! She looks really nice. I love the shape and manged to get a tidy one a few weeks later from Bristol.

I think it might have been it was painted a pale yellow colour. It also arrived damaged from poor packing but that sorted out with the seller paying for the parts which was basically rear buffer beam and overlay. I think more time went in to it than the money saved on a better example. It has however given me a good understanding of the valve gear and I'm quite fond of the engine. I think I paid 600 plus the radio install which was another 60 still not bad I the end.

Very nice job of re-painting and repair. Katie looks like she just came out of the box from Roundhouse.
I have a Katie also , a favorite of mine .

This photo gives you an idea of what was in the box when delivered.
I was naturally disappointed and that's one of the reason it took so long. In all fairness to the seller he didn't pack, it was done in his works shipping department. It's all good now.

I think the driver backed onto the train a bit too fast there!

Have a look at the Friedewald Head-On collision, where 121 people were injured in 2009. The video footage that was posted showing the aftermath has been deleted but there is a photo in this wikipedia article -

Looks like it took an above average abuse, I didn't knew playing baseball was that popular in the UK! Fortunately the "shipping department" took care of packaging else the damage would have been even worse.

I refer to the rough handling by Royal Mail as the '5-a-side football team', and make sure I pack my items up accordingly.
It is not just restricted to Royal Mail. I had a Wilesco D141 workshop which was sent via courier in a very large cardboard box with very little packing inside. The engine unit was pulled out of the boiler with the threaded boiler insert, boiler housing bent and the metal steam valve 'lost on the wind'. At least the seller did give a partial refund as the metal steam valve is no longer available (had to use the modern plastic alternative), and I managed to repair the rest of the damage OK.

We don't do baseball, as such. There is, however, rounders. However, to do some proper damage a cricket bat will do nicely.
