Electric Loco - recommendations please

Since re-discovering the joys of "instant" trains via my N-Gauge (which my kitten thinks was laid especially for him to play with ......) I am looking for a similar "put on track and go" easy train to potter around my track with out the faff if a live steamer.

Ive a budget of around £100

I am looking at a Triang Big Big shunter. And the old lady who gave me her track may have a Big Big something.

Thoughts please!

Steam but this would be Diesel outline.

If your not to bothered with detail then a old rechargeable (the new batteries drain very quickly) playmobil loco would be a possible. They can be expensive but I'm sure ebay mite be able to help.

If you don't object to building a kit, there are any number of cheapo kits around - the IP Engineering EZee range and the Busted Bricks loco both come to mind - they're only around the £30-£40 mark, they're not that difficult to build and will repay a little extra added detailing.

You'll even have enough left in the budget to buy some stock, too!

If you're open to building a kit I'd recommend an AnDel Ffion, easy to build, complete with all you need and under £100. Mine has had some problems, due to my incompetence I hasten to add. But it is still going strong and I dare say with an IPE basic chassis it's a bit stronger.

Given the amount of WD stock I have I was thinking of a plasticard armoured Simplex body over a commercial chassis. Any thoughts?

After having had a partial shed-quake and various items in my shed falling off the shelves...

I am tempted to convert a now rather battered Andel brake van into an early "Flying Shed" type diesel. Make the verandah into the driving cab; put a radiator on that end and exhaust and silencer etc on the roof.

Now: what chassis to use?
