Roundhouse Vs Accucraft.

Post by Matt » Wed Aug 20, 2008 5:25 pm

As some may already know, I'm saving up to get my first proper engine. I've worked out that I'll have enought money to buy either a Accucraft 'Lawley', or a Roundhouse Katie, or even a Lady Ann.

Which should I go for?

Accucraft have great customer service considering there's only one bloke, In one case Mr Pearse even offered to make new a new part, thankfully I managed to obtain one second-hand.

This is a bit of a silly poll, both companys are equally fantastic, just accucraft is cheaper.

i have feelings towards both, i like roundhouse because they do good running, well made british made models and do alot of spares, but i like accucraft because they are very robust and cheap,

bad things about roundhouse-
way to shiny

very expensive

no inside side to the tanks

all the metal work and parts are a bit to crisp and sharp

bad things about accucraft-

made in china

dont run as well as roundhouses

small bore for a massive heavy loco

out of scale

not a very good spares service

can be badly made

they keep stopping models after a short period of time!

made in china
I fail to see how that can be considered bad :? ?
not a very good spares service
Have you used it?
they keep stopping models after a short period of time!
That's because they're special editions.

Ok then , its not bad
not a very good spares service
Have you used it?
but i mean they dont ahve a whole page full of spares where you can jsut pick what you want and phone up and order it, you have to email and wait for a reply.

I have used it before, i got a couple of gas tank jet fillers, and some o rings.

About the too shiny bit, some people would consider that to be a plus.

I think I might get a Lady Ann on the basis that it looks good, has perhaps the best reputation of any loco, and is produced in Britian. If I don't make enought money for that, I'll get a Lawley.

Not voting on this, because I own a roundhouse but never used an accucraft, so I can't compare.

I really like the Bertie I have, and I think even at new price the value is good, especially considering they have to pay UK wages, rather than Chinese wages. I think it is fantastic that the UK can compete.

Hardly fair to vote if I haven't used an accucraft though.

Although, I have to admit that what I have seen of accucraft (mainly Edrig), is that I think they are a bit big. With the Bertie I can still use my mamod stock without it looking too daft.

Nor do I. But I do have a wife to keep me under control, and a mortgage!

Even though I now have a roundhouse (all be it from the budget range and secondhand), you still can't beat a well running mamod for value for money!

Chuff-Chuff.

Steam is great in any form.

I have a Roundhouse and a Accucraft. Im very happy with both. Both have their quirks, and their qualities. I will say Accucraft feels more solid, not quite as 'tinny', but Roundhouse is better detailed, made in YORKSHIRE!!!!!! :D (not a chinese sweat shop like accys!)... So I voted I like them both.
