I have turned Vincent into Gösta!

Post by St.Michael » Sun Jun 03, 2012 10:31 pm

My first real livesteam loco on the ØVJ was the Regner Vincent. Having red GR and seen it there, and also finding out that it had a price I could live with, I ordered it from Germany. I really had to do all my learning just by reading on the internet, and of course the instructionpages that came with the loco. At the start I just felt like this :? and :?: And after weeks with no real trainrunning (I managed to drive it in reverse, but not forward  ) I sent it back to germany.
When I after I while got it back it really did work, and I got stuck in the hobby ;)
Vincent has always been one of my favourite locos but the giant preassure gauge and the not very nordic red colour on the frame has irritated me for almost all the time I have owned it. The second year I drove it, I gave him a driver, and a name: GÖSTA, and I began to change the buffer in the front. But I had much bigger plans. It became my winterproject(excuse me for a bad picture..)

But at last the winter came, I ordered small gauges (including my Regner Chaloner) And took the loco apart. And when I painted the frame black and fitted the small preassuregauge, I began looking and thinking about the gear on the side. This also looked too simple and toy-ish for me, so I began looking for a suitable cover. I made it from a small tincan. And then I really missed a real buffer beam in the front, so I made one from brass. Finally I worked with the driver, and gave him an extra security chain behind his back.

And today I got Gösta running after some adjustments

Feels like I have achived something (my fiancée don´t agree) :D

You HAVE achieved something, never mind what the fiancee thinks!

Looks very smart, is Gosta just a name or does it translate to english as anything?

Gösta

Post by St.Michael » Mon Jun 04, 2012 10:00 pm

My grandfather was called Gösta, thats the swedish nickname on "Gustav". He was married to my grandmother Valborg for nearly 80years, they both became almost 100 years..

Today I tried driving them both at the same time, but a serious derailment (with a smashed copling) made me drive them one at the time

Lovely locos, I do like seeing locos changed about to their builder's requirements.

I really like your 'Valborg' , she looks strong and reliable. How do these 2 locomotives run in comparison to each other?

Well that´s really a matter of taste. But I think my favourite is "Gösta" because of all the movement hes making with chaintransmission and the massive (don´t remember the english name..) swing(?)wheel that works on the top together with the oscilator! And (this is an important one:) he gives a lot more smoke.
Valborg runs slower and I think she gives a bit longer runningtime. I don´t know if it is common, but theese two locos can I run at the same time. :)
