Hello,
Has anyone tried and/or succeeded in making a hydraulic transmission / fluid flywheel for garden railway locos?
I've built a double bogie battery electric loco for my 16mm:ft, 45mm gauge railway using worm gearboxes. I have real problems with the inertia of the trains attempting to graunch the worm wheel through the worm. I suppose fitting motors with flywheels would help, but trying something a bit more imaginative is an attractive proposition. I'm a fan of the old 'Warships' and 'Westerns' hence my possibly off the wall idea.

Yes Martin, Brian Millar has done it on a 16mm track-powered electric locomotive.
Brian's day job is driving diesel hydraulics in the Ozzie canefields.
There's stuff about it on the 16mmngm Yahoo Group about 7 years ago. Visit the home page (join if necessary) and Search the Messages archive.
