Best Paint for Live Steam Engines

Post by Jonnyb » Tue Jul 27, 2010 1:00 pm

I have finally got some etch primer (decent stuff) for my project (a collins pixie).

The body work is ready for a repaint but I can't find a dark red/maroon enamel spray (like the roundhouse colour).

Can anyone recomend a particular make or any idea where to get it from.

Help would be appreciated

Being an externally meths fired engine i didnt think it would be up to the job.

Might be worth a go though.

are you going to paint the boiler a colour? or black,

acrylic will be ok on the bodywork, heatproof black (engine or exaust black) for boiler.

halfords paint on an externally fired loco will blacken! the heat will react with the pigment causing it to darken in areas greatly affected by the heat. your best bet is phoenix precision paints. these are spray enamels/single pack and 2 pack paints.
