Lindas New nameplates

Post by MoelygestLR » Tue Jul 13, 2010 3:12 pm

Here are some pictures of my Linda with its new nameplates fitted and with the choppers fitted, looking much closer to finished.
Only thing I can think of adding now is a wooden floor but i want to look at the real thing (or Blanche, not sure weather Linda is that far advanced through its overhaul yet), before i put one on my model. Got to be prototypical now havent I!

Anyway here are some pics ...

Very nice indeed, how did you fit the Accucraft? choppers?

Plates are from MDC, supplied by Rhos Helyg Loco Works (TonyW on this forum).

The Choppers were made for my by a friend, but upon inspection are very simple affairs.

its easier to show a picture so here you go.

the existing centre buffers were removed and stored and these screwed in place instead. I think I am going to do a similar thing for my Lady Anne as they look spot on.

Well done Paul, very nice.

Prior to its current overhaul, Linda had some kind of man-made "composition" floor fitted during the 1995/1996 overhaul. It worked very well as it was hard-wearing and did not soak up oil and degreaser like a wood floor and so was easier to keep clean. It was still in place when Linda last ran in 2004 and would probably be good for many more years. On that basis, it has probably gone in the skip by now.

Thanks for the compliment Tony. I'm suprised I haven't cocked up to be honest but i listened to your advice and all seems to have went well.

Hmmm just wondering what it would have looked like back in the 50's/ 60's when my model is based. Probably a wooden floor. i remember that last time i was in Blanches cab she had a wooden floor but that it was slightly different than i was expecting so I shall have to have a look next time I'm at Blodge.

Maybe Will could add his thoughts on this as I'm sure he has seen it more than I have ...

Ahha, looking great, it is a lovely model. That's a smashing idea for fitting choppers to roundhouse locos. I may have to fit River Deben in the same way.

Don't know why the trade hasn't released an adapter for fitting RH with ACC choppers.....

My thoughts:- Blanche needs a new cab floor, before I go through it.

Pete - direct your question at TonyW - he did it! but I would have thought so. my experience with painting brass is that if you dont etch primer it the paint doesnt stay on.

and Bruno okay but what does it look like! pictures please :)

The stuff I use is 2-pack and is only available from car paint suppliers in 1 litre tins. Sorry, but no idea where you could get a smaller quantity or which make to recommend.

Now that I like. Ive "adapted" some GRS L&B style choppers for my VoR they do the job and they look ok but are possibly slightly too low and I havnt got the option of pulling 3 link stuff without using a barrier vehicle in between. There really is a market there for hose adaptors youve got.

I better tell the bloke who very kindly made them for me that he is on to something!

May I just add anyone who wants a pair of choppers like so for their roundhouse loco and hasn't got the metal bashing skills to copy the design and do it themselves may can get in contact with my friend Dave Mees who very kindly made these and he will do his best to sort you out with a pair.
