Dempsey, compton down loco
I am considering buying this loco from compton down. I rather like the look of it. Quirky and unusual. I am going to get some more pics of it tomorrow as well as a report about how well it runs. If it runs slow enough for my taste I may just bid.
What do you think, it is the second one down:

It would need DVLR isising though!

My grandad has a ruby. When he bought it it ran awfully, extremely fast. He has now rebuilt it and it resembles Pamela, a penrhyn hunslet! Personally unless you know how well it runs/what has been done to it I'd leave it alone unless you'd be prepared to completely rebuild it, but would you really want to do that with a Peter Jones loco?

All respects to Peter Jones but if Mr.Bond buys the loco, i think he is right to rename it and repaint to suit his livery but underneath it its still the old loco and the only one in the world so anyone would still notice it
Although if you renamed it would be respectfull to rename it in his memory

It's a Ruby- much like a mamod, it will go well- eventually.
But I think it totally defeats the object to modify it, at all- it's a piece of history, and a memorial- not just another locomotive. Why would you want it, if not to preserve it? I can understand the odd tweak, and mechanical tinkering, but not repainting, renaming etc- you'd just lose the character.
Anyway, I suspect they will actually go for rather a lot!

NO IT DOESNT!Mr. Bond of the DVLR wrote:I see it as inkeeping with Peter Jone's philosophy...
Modifying it to suit his need and to achieve something unique.
I will not by buying it if it does not run well.
It would need renaming and repainting...
if peter was still with us, then yes that rule may apply as it would jsut a be a sold loco, but as he sadly is no longer with us, then it becomes a Peter Jones Compton Down loco. and shouldnot be changed.
