It all depends on whether you want upholstered or cushioned seats. Cushioned ones will quite possibly need to be carved from the solid - Mr Dremel is your best friend in such a case.

If you want upholstered, you can buy sticky-backed velour from:http://www.hobby.uk.com/catalogue/0264- ... erial.html which does a good job of covering a wooden seat - I'm using green for the MDLR's Buffet Car.

Hmmm, I made some profile wood with a router and stuck them togethor in an L shape. I then chose some material with a very fine pattern and weve and stuck it on with lots of overlap around the back. I wanted to put buttons in aswell so pressed into the material and wood with a centre punch and droped a very fine drop of paint in the divet. A bit fiddly but lovely results! If you wanted slightly more padded seats you could stuff them with a few leaves of tissue!

I used felt from an old set of drawers (which I think was for jewelry) to upholster my 1st Class FR bug box.

I found out later that you can buy this from any decent art&craft/hobby shop.

I think it gives a nice result from the window of the carriage. I have some pictures somewhere but as Im packing for a weekend of FR volunteering I'll have to find them another time.
