Hi Big Jim,
I use a Peter Spoerer lining pen and am pretty pleased with it. I wouldn't claim to have mastered the art yet but I'm enjoying learning and am looking forward to my next lining project. See my "Repainting Russell" thread for my experiences and observations, plus Ian Stock's article which I found useful - http://gardenrailwayrealism.pbworks.com ... ng%20stock
With the Baldwin I mostly used the pen to fill in the gaps left by the stencil, although in retrospect I should probably have used it for the line around the number too.
All the best,
Andrew.

I use the same pen and was really surprised when I was looking at "My Locosound" stand at a show to see my loco on the advert, the one in my avatar, same picture. I had sent a picture in but didn't know they were using it to advertise, think I sold a few pens for them whilst we were chatting on the basis that it was my first attempt.

I had to dig for quite a while to find this thread!
Dave Mees at Abbey Bach is making me some spectacle hoods for this loco, so I thought I'd sort some of the other mods necessary to "590-ise" my little loco while I wait, starting with the cab back.
I've opted for the later, garden shed-inspired style, using the Jurassic kit as a basis. I had to cut it down a bit (it's supposed to go right into the bunker, which is full of R/C gubbins) and work out how to add a roof that married up with the original (not supplied in the kit) - here's how it looks:

It ain't beautiful, but then nor was the original!
I may try to tackle the line that should go around the numbers this week - I had stencilled it but wasn't really happy with it so will try the lining pen instead...
Cheers,
Andrew.
