Vincent is cursed

Post by pauly » Tue Oct 07, 2008 9:03 pm

A while back I posted about how my regner vincent had an excessive burner howl (you could hear it 2 gardens over)
well a couple of weeks ago a new burner arrived and as me dad was putting it in for me (I was busy) he found it was a little tight going in and as he tried forcing it in he broke the boiler off its mounts, bent the burner and mangled the pipe work

I dont know how to refix the boiler because of the reduction drive it has to put up with a lot of vibration and it looks like itll be needing a new boiler. :-|

I wish Id never bought it its so depressing. :-|

I think it should be you wish you never gave it to your dad to fix it... if it wont go in, that means it wont fit. Therefore forcing it will not make it go in, but break something else ;) Try and see if the dealer could fix it if you can't, or contact someone locally (ie if you have a mate in the 16mm assc or whateva), see if they can do something...

That's quite impressive, you must have put quite a lot of effort into that ;)

Hope you manage to get it fixed without to much grief- but for hell's sake, if it does give you grief stop and ask for help!

What's with all your broken loco parts lately. I think someone needs to treat these little engines with a little more care, it's not like working on a car where you can snug a big wrench onto a nut and torque it right up. Loco's are made of much dantier stuff. If it doesn't budge or you have a problem, take a step back and go through in your mind what you can do and think, whats the worst thing that could happen if it goes wrong?

Sorry to sound a bit preachy, but it's sad to see what should be a nice loco damaged after owning it for such a small time too.

1 , I do treat my engines very well  :?

2 , it was me dad who broke it     :D

3 , what do you mean all my broken engines the only other engine of mine that is broken is an old diesel that overheated due to dodgey wiring.

I thought your Roundhouse Millie had the regulator busted off in the thread too? Didn't you need to get some parts from Roundhouse? I'd keep any new loco's away from your dad though! ;)

We tend to think of our model locos of being well made and engineered, but as you point out they are still small things and therefore not always as strong as they appear.

I'm sure we have all broken things, or had our things broken through being a bit impatient or frustrated.

Good advice for all of us Alan, take a step back, think it through, and don't try and force anything if it doesn't move.

Unless you buy an Accucraft, everything apart from the banjo bolt is bomb proof expecially the boiler  .
