A couple of sessions working on the Woodleigh Engineering 3D printed WLLR open kit I bought last Saturday at the Stoneleigh show have got this far:-

Because the wagon is not going to be painted, anywhere a little bit of abrasive action has been used to remove tiny edges leaves a lighter colour and different texture. Still there’s no way I could paint the ironwork as neatly as the printing process does!

It’s an interesting kit to build. A little trimming of the tabs and holes they fit into is needed as the printing process can leave tiny rims. The axle box pieces have three tabs that slide into holes in the sole bars and fit so tightly that they don’t need glue to hold them.

I think Joe, who makes them, will be at the Llanfair show in August. Fingers crossed he may have more goodies for us,

It's been a good Friday to do some more wagon work, cold, windy and wet.

I got the extra detailing bits fitted, mostly without any glue needed so the wagon is now nearly finished. It needs transfers and some more glue in the joints of the sides. I need some new liquid cement as the remains of the bottle I have are a bit grubby, OK for underneath, but not really in full view.

The eagle eyed may spot an error where I should have read the instructions more carefully, it has now been corrected but not photographed.

Brake lever in front of rather than behind the drop down door bracket thingy??
Edit : Oops, now I look more closely it is behind the bracket

Rik,

that is not what I have corrected. I expected the brake lever to go higher into the off position but the four iron hangers are all the same and will not allow it to go higher as far as I can tell,

Straight on with the WLLR box van.

It's quicker building a second kit from a trader as you have worked out the methodology and a few wrinkles to make things simpler.

Having made up the chassis yesterday, I prepared the side and ends today, here they are shown with rubber bands holding the corners tightly together, the blue masking tape holds the door cills against the floor. At the end can be seen a magnet which is holding to a 1-2-3 block keeping the end square. I've added the hook chain hangers at the end to the buffer beam before doing anything else with it, this is something I found difficult to do once the open wagon was assembled and had the buffer in place

Ah!, I had wondered about that. Our broad gauge wagons had bends to come out around the axle box then back in again.

that looks better and is really helpful. It’s just a case of bending the brake handle a little to reroute it to miss the iron hanger,

PS I have had a further look and even by changing the shape of the brake handle the iron hanger still prevents if from going high enough!

Those wagons look really good.

Nice bit of 3 D printing - and nicely made up. They will look good behind you pickering coaches.

and here are the two (almost) finished wagons with a 16Mills brake van behind Clara this afternoon.

The box van needs transfers, doing those on the open was enough scary stuff for one go, and the rain covers over the doorways.

Some 16 months after being given the station building I have finally got around to adding some figures. The gent reading the paper and the lady were painted by a friend who enjoys figure painting. The two gents in the other side are bought figures that will also appear on some fellow members' railways.

it’s placed in position when the railway is open for traffic. I doubt it is weatherproof and anyway is quite light and easily moved by the wind.

It is very special to me as a friend made it as a Christmas gift following a visit so has to be cared for,

The WLLR box van had its transfers and rain covers fitted. It and the open then had a coat of matt sealant which is recommended for the 3D printed plastic for protection from UV. I also did the barrels I got from Woodleigh. A short running session this afternoon behind Porthmadog allowed a photo:-
