Fitted a lubricator

A very popular starting point for Live Steam. With their low cost comes a number of problems which can be discussed here

Fitted a lubricator

Post by Boustrophedon » Tue Aug 25, 2015 10:59 pm

I made a lubricator for my Mamod, it had been fitted with an in cab regulator but that left no provision for proper cylinder lubrication. So I built a simple displacement lubricator out of brass. I am surprised at the  difference it has made, the loco is now much more controllable, uses less steam and water so runs for longer.

OK so it is not the prettiest of installations, bending the tube was a nightmare. But it works.

I am very impressed, how did you go about making it?

Turned the bits out of brass on the lathe and soldered them together.

Oh, it looks very professional.
I don't have a lathe :-(
