Hi

I have some Roundhouse diamond frame bogies which were produced as a kit in the 1980s (!) which I have made up. My understanding, experience and research suggests the kit has an error in it in that the side frames, when assembled are actually upside down.

This is rather an annoying error. I remember they were not particularly cheap at the time as a hard up student:

I got them for the Ashover Coach kit - but I'm looking at Wrightlines WD bogies for this now.

I am familiar with the diamond frame bogies used on the Isle of Man Railway, and the Roundhouse version look upside down to me too.

In Roundhouse's defence, if you google "arch bar trucks" (which is what the Americans call them) you can find pictures of either configuration, although you're right, the kind with the flat bar on top is the least common.

This has now been changed, the version I have was bought last year and has the flat bit at the bottom.

I don't want to sound too critical, but I seem to be collecting kits from different suppliers which are not quite right.

I have now settled on buying some Wrightscale WD bogies but having sent a few emails now have yet to get a response. Are they still in business?

Hi,  I've not had much luck with e-mail to Wrightscale.  I did have a phone number but that wasn't answered most of the time.  Note that when you do get a response it will likely be very helpful.  You might be tempted to write to Malcolm at the address on the website.  
They are definately still in business and their products are much sought after.

I did get in touch with Malcom at Wrightscale. We had some parlay over how payment might be made. He now has PayPal which is a great help. Sadly, he's run out of WD bogies but he's doing some more soon in June I think.

I looked at the Roundhouse bogies again. Turning them right way up is too much work. They are on the shelf with the Binnie ones I got around the same time….

I think I'm going to make my own, but probably need a lathe and a drill for that. I'm looking at Proxon at the moment.
