I know that Pearce morphed into Accucraft but I cannot find out much about their products. Do we have any experts out there who can shed some light on the engines they produced. I only ask as I was talking to some one today about a Ulysses that may be for sale soon.

I bought three Pearse models "back then", but not a Ulysses, I´m afraid. I was attracted by the heavy, solid feel, the fact that they were based on prototypes, and the comparatively high level of detail, compared to RH at the time. They´ve been with the K&NWLR for around 15 years now, and have just been properly serviced. Good runners!

From the small pictures I have seen they do look nice and solid. Well proportioned also springs to mind.
As people may have guessed from this post and the previous one a new loco for the PMR is in the pipeline. I wasn't really looking for another steamer at the moment, particularly as the PMR is on hold at the moment due to a possible impending house move and career change but a small bequest has come my way with the stipulation that I buy something I want with it as a memento. As the person concerned was a steam nut it seems only fitting that a steam engine is the way to go.

In the interests of bigger pics of Pearse locomotives, here are some from this morning on the K&NWLR.

That looks very similar to the one I have been offered. Except this one is unlined. I would have to paint the wheels black as it looks far too Germanic for my liking, Possibly a full repaint will be in order if I end up with it. Although lined black with the BR unicycling lion on the tanks could be a possibility.
Does it have a gauge glass fitted?

Pearse loco are very well build and have a more craftsman feal than Roundhouse or Accucraft UK. The early locos are similar to Merlins mechanically but are built better and have a lttle more detail. Many have control R/C just controlling the reversing valve therefore some may find them lacking in fine speed control. The gas burners can also be a little noisy. Some of the freelance models like the Ulysees are are chunky, similar to the later Accucraft models and look better with G scale or 2'6" gauge 16mm rolling stock.

I've often seen photos and videos of the Pearse Countesses, butI've hardly ever seen the SLR 2-6-2 and Leeds No. 1. I suppose they are either rarer, or just camera shy - or maybe both! A pity, because they're really lovely models. Thanks for sharing

I have a Genesis which is basically the 0-6-0 version of these which is one of my projects awaiting a service an new R/C. It was shed find put on ebay and was it a toolbox which had clearly been left untouched in the shed for years. These have lower cabs than the later freelance models.
