Two Simple Accucraft Modifications
Hi folks
Now I am more used to sending bits of brass over to the USA, but when I saw two modifications being marketed by The Train Department in the US, I had to buy them to try on my Quarry Hunslet.
The first is a replacement regulator, which has a finer cone and twin O rings for smoother operation. I gather it fits all Accucraft, but I only tried it on my basic Ruby before fitting it to my manual control Quarry Hunslet. It works a treat and is very simple to fit as you can see here:

The second is a replacement gas valve which has a much finer thread and the twin O rings for smooth operation. This version was specifically for the Quarry Hunslet, but there are other versions for different Accucraft locos. It also works a treat and is very simple to fit:

My pleasure - it was great to find them and importing from the US was not a problem.
I also made a little film of fitting one to a Ruby here:

and if you fancy seeing the manufacturer making a similar valve, look here - it is fascinating to watch:

And I can relate to that! The first time I looked I couldn't find them and the next time I had forgotten where I found them!Gremlin:92483 wrote:Yes I can relate to that.
I did look on the Train department the other day for these items but couldn't see them, do you have a link please.
scrap that, just looked again and they popped up easily.
For everyone else go to www.thetraindepartment.com - then click on Accucraft and replacement parts.
Cheers

I had the same issue! I contacted Jason and he supplied a replacement that works very well...LnBmad:104326 wrote:I've just received my regulator and gas regulator from these guys for my ragleth. I've fitted both but with the gas reg fully closed it leaks gas as if the valve was wide open. Any ideas?

Anyone got caught out by the HMRC VAT & Royal Mail collection fee with these orders from The Train Department? I'm looking at ordering 2 replacement regulator valves, and if I understand it correctly the value of the goods includes the postage costs to the UK, and VAT is chargeable on goods over the value of £15.
I was wondering how others had easily managed to order these valves online, but it is easy to miss the important message regarding International Orders on their Home Page unless you scroll down first (dependant on your screen resolution) prior to selecting the Upgrade Valves menu option which is near the top of the Home Page.
I've got a 2013 Ragleth which is fitted with a factory fitted No.5 jet and have found the gas valve works just fine once you've got the burner to stabilise on initial light up. I've fitted a replacement Chuffed2Bits No.5 jet to my Edrig which has also improved that burner.

When I tried to place an order the last time I went straight to their Upgrade Valves page from the Home Page, but there is nothing obvious about how you should fill in your International Address in their Shopping Cart options (it requires a State & Zip Code). It was only after looking around their website that I found the message further down on their Home Page regarding how to fill in your International Address.
