I bought an IP 7/8ths Ruston kit at the Peterborough show, and it is now more or less completed.
I built it for 18 inch gauge with extended side frames. The motor was replaced with a Heljan O Gauge spare from Howes Models (https://www.howesmodels.co.uk/Railways/ ... rodID=7012), the worm fitted to the motor shaft meshing perfectly with the IP gear wheel supplied with the kit. A suitable sound card was bought from Mr Acme. Radio control is from Deltang (http://www.deltang.co.uk/), a TX-22 transmitter and a tiny RX60-22W receiver and speed controller. Control is very smooth, quiet, and the loco will run very slowly. I've since put another receiver/speed controller in my Accucraft Baguley (which has been fitted with the same motor as above) and that runs really nicely too. The transmitter allows selection of up to 12 locos with a rotary switch. There hasn't been much steam haulage on the Sarum and Stratford recently.......
