Accucraft Burner

Post by SapperAnt » Thu Oct 04, 2012 7:28 pm

Hi all

The burner (had a new jet fitted by Messrs Accucraft) is now very noisy and keeps sputtering out and making rather loud "breaking of wind" type noises and just won't keep lit outdoors unless its set very high. This can't be right.

Any cures?

From your description it sounds as if there is too much air being drawn into the burner.

There is usually a blanking off ring near the air intake hole. Has this been replaced in the correct position? Try experimenting by blocking off the air holes a bit more

I had a loco with a similar problem (Edrig), and it was too much air intake. It turned out that the burner was pulling air around the jet housing (very little, but enough to matter). A couple wraps of PTFE tape sealed the leak, and the burner has been much better since.

Thanks guys!

How does one adjust the blanking off ring? A picture would save a thousand words

There are two designs of ring. One is a solid collar with a grub screw to hold it in place. If you have this style, loosen the grub screw and move the ring to block off the air hole a bit more and then re-tighten the grub screw

The other type is spring steel in a horseshoe shape. It relies on its springiness gripping the burner. Get a screwdriver and push it along to cover the air hole a bit more.

I can't give an absolute setting to use as each burner is different. Just be prepared to experiment adjusting the air intake a little each time until you loose the roar.

Thanks. This is a brass collar with a grub screw.
