IP Jane probs

Post by listerboy » Wed Jul 25, 2012 10:45 pm

Hi

I have an IP Jane. 10 years ago when I went out of 16MM I dismantled it (I don't know why, perhaps it was an early fling with senility) And left it in store. I've come back into 16mm, so I retrived it and rebuilt it. It was steamed, but when i got pressure up and opened the regulator, steam just came out of the chimney. Turning the reverser lever stopped the steam. What have I done wrong? It's not like I'm a raw recruit, I've worked on the real thing.

Any advise would be helpful.

Thanks
Brian

Sounds like you have plumbed up the reverser the wrong way.

I thought that, but theres only one way for the block to go on. The 'dished' ports for the feed and exhaust with their grommets on the engine side, the smooth side for the lever on the buffer side. The block had BB404 on the bottom when I got it, and I have it in the right place.

Then you may have managed to block the ports to the cylinders somehow.

It sounds like it is jumping the passages some where. Check that the gaskets behind the cylinders are sealing against the frames, it may be while in store a slight distortion has happened. The other thing to check is that the cylinders are sealing as the O rings may have perished.

That sounds like the problem.

Brian, I think Dan may have the answer. My mamod had been modified with IP cylinders and would barely run. I found the cylinder bores very poor and ended up buying PPS cylinders which are superb. Also WD40 eats O rings......
Good luck
Chris
