After wanting a coal fired loco I finally took the plunge.
I bought Simon Whenmouths maxitrak Dixie off of him, which has been a rather large 'shelf queen' for the past 10 years. In all the engine has seen only a few hours steaming and came with a all the certs ready to steam
To go with it I bought one of PNP railways braked wagons which rides very nicely

Very nice, I hope you bring it across to the Joys of Life one day, I imagine it would sound good on the grades...

Welcome to 5 inch gauge land! What a great start! A complete loco and a driving truck, neither of which I have...

Dan, she should be on show tomorrow depending on the weather.
Chris, She will one day make it over to joys of life im sure.
She has been fitted with a steam injector aswell as having a cross head pump and hand pump so plenty of ways to get water into the boiler. I also have a bell whistle which i may fit to replace the flute type. first thing is to fit safety chains between the loco and driving wagon. I may also see if Maxitrak will supply the sandbox castings for the tank front.
Richard, the workshop track is, erm, limited

Very nice

And I expect it's alot easier to fit in a car than my 7 1/4" quarry hunslet

Looks very nice - sorry I won't get to see it "in the flesh" tomorrow, but I'll see it when I come over for the Darj - probably Friday.

Over here on the other side of the pond, small utility trailers that will tow behind smaller cars are commonly used.
Keeps the "nasty" coal burner out of the car interior
