Accucraft W&L Countess/Earl Conversion to Battery Power

Post by Greenmodelmonkey » Thu Aug 18, 2011 8:10 pm

Hi, I'm am newbie an this is my first post since joining the group this evening so here goes....

I have recived an new electric Accucraft Countes/Earl from John at Track Shack (GWR Green) and have been merrily converting it to battery power and improving the cab cosmetics (more about the cab some other time but phots to show changes attached below).

Well... With Battery Pack in the Boiler space, switching in the smoke box, Aristicraft Revolution Train Engineer Receiver in the side tank and Train Engineer wireless 2.4ghz transmitter I now have a very responsive engine with slow running capabilities. This now allows me to run in an instant and is a nice change from the steam powered version.

Hope this helps others who are thinking about taking the plunge to undertake a similar conversion.

All the best,
Greenmodelmonkey

Looks good but I don't like these Steam to Electric conversions. Why spend a load of money for a Steam engine only to have the steam engine bits taken out & electric bits put in? Sounds odd to me

Couldn't have said that any better myself really, i read the title and thought "how strange"? then saw the cab and thought, WOW, that is spectacular, but then go back to thinking...electric.....why?

I guess we all have our reasons.

But hats off to that cab, quite honestly never seen anything like it, at first glance i thought it was a picture of the real one you were trying to copy! :D

this is Accucrafts Electric Countess. The only conversion is from track power to on board battery.

Earlier this year Accucraft released the electric version.

Great conversion BTW looking good.

Looks superb, those in cab shots especially. I own a steam version of the same & thought the detail was good on that, but the electric ones...well wow!

Nice conversion, have not seen that RC setup before, looks rather neat.

Just seen the railwaymans essential tool kit in one of the pics, cup of tea & a hammer!! Superb. ;)

Spot on Sir Haydn and thanks for pointing out that this is the new track powered verision.

I also have the live steam version, but I have to say the electric verision will probably be used the most from now on due to its instant and slow running qualities.  The only down side for me at moment is lack of sound which the steam version is very good at for some reason!

Also thank you to those that have made some very positive comments about the cab interior and I am glad I was able to use this forum to share this with you.

For info the mug of tea is the metal end of a 13amp fuse with a small length of brass wire soldered to the side, sprayed with Halfords white appliance gloss and rim painted blue with a permanent blue marker pen. It does contain real tea of course but the driver has drunk most of it.

All the best,

I posted a commercial conversion I have done on this group on July 12th, FYI.

It pulls a WLLR open truck fitted with one of my steam sound units and a dummy coal load.
