Right, Thought my ragleth has a blocked gas jet (may still have) so i tried unblocking it in the usual way.
tried lighting it once back together however still nothing apart from a silent dull blue flame which sort of sits in the smokebox :|
any ideas?
its a lovely loco so im quite annoyed about this :(

Does sound like a blocked jet- or it's drawing in air from somewhere, try dropping a few drops of water on the unions. Is the jet back in the holder securely (with a wrap of PTFE) and is the holder sat straight in the burner?

Have you read the instructions on jet cleaning which come with the engine?
Have you resealed the thread on the gas jet with PTFE tape, which screws into the jet holder?

Also how did you clean the jet out?
I'v winced when some people have told me their way of doing it. The worst I heard was a chap who ran a small drill bit through it

Is the jet holder sealed into the burner sleeve? A friend had an air leak between the jet holder and the outer burner sleeve in the cab and had a similar situation. A wrap of rolled PTFE between the jet housing and the burner housing cured the problem.

That shouldn't need to be that tight, in my experience- but it does need to be straight! The important joint is the one mentioned by Mike.

my Ruby did this on a visit to my mates on Tuesday. The jet was out of line with the rest of it. Gave it a tweak to try and straighten it out and it sorted it.

Good evening,
If I may give a tip on blocked gas jets, try opening the gas valve on the engine and filling it in the usual way.The extra pressure from the gas bottle usually clears the blockage,it saves a lot of messing about. But do it outside...A picy of me Leader....
