A couple of simple wagons

I ordered a couple of IP four-plank wagons for my locomotive. I don't have a railway, but the locomotive looked a bit lonely on the shelf without something to pull, so I built these. They are so simple they aren't really worth boasting about, but I think they go along with the engine quite well.



And then there is the issue of the "railway back story"... well I think this picture spells it out. When I eventually get started on a railway, the line will be passing quite close by my chair and the barbeque.

They look quite nice, but a little customisation never goes amiss. Roundhouse do a packet of lamp irons for 60-odd pence and you could always add a tarpaulin bar and sheet to one of them.........

That looks quite nice. I will be adding lamp irons to them, I have a set of three of those little lamps from chuffed2bits which light up when the chimney is twisted.

The locomotive and its little train have a job to do in the summer, which precludes putting any interior details in the wagons, but after that I will probably make some little details for the insides. I am quite serious however, about using the train to haul beer on the future garden railway.

I am reluctant to talk about just what "job" the train has, but basically it has been hired to pull some stuffed animal toys around a temporary track at a wedding. The lady who designs the toys is a friend of my wife, and she thinks this will be fun. I tried to get out of it, but it did justify the purchase of the wagons and 60 feet of track, so I can't complain too much.

Nice one, locos tend to be happier when they have something to pull. Perhaps next a brakevan or caboose dependant on what you model would not go amiss. Oh & I'm sure if my roundhouse locos are anything to go by it won't even notice two on the back...

I would really like one of those VoR summer coaches, I think that might be next. I'm satisfied with the level of detail on the IP wagons, I don't want to over-do the "scale" aspect, because I am not really trying to "model" anything. I just want a little steam railway to enjoy in the garden. I'm not really interested in prototypes. Although I would like the overall look to be "UK narrow gauge", I think the atmosphere can be captured without having to be too specific about it. That's why I like the "Billy", and the little wooden wagons, they are generic but not toy-like.

I don't think the locomotive will even feel these wagons behind it, beer or no beer.

I imagine by the end those toys will be quite oily

Indeed. At least the toys won't be set on fire. Oily is the least of their worries.
