Faller Hit Train, Play Train and the like

Having recently rediscovered my Faller Hit Train from my college days (50 years ago!) I am setting up a layout outside within my current Gauge 1 clockwork layout. I could find very little about it on the Forum and so am hoping to kick off a discussion about running, maintaining, repairing and finding spares for this unique toy model railway.

Hello!

I've used quite a lot of the faller "E train" range over the years - the size is better suited to the 16mm/ft scale that many of us here model in. I've used various of the range's wagons modified and repainted to suit my needs, have tinkered with the steam and diesel locomotives, and had a rake of the lovely 4 wheel balcony carriages for a while. Only a repainted railcar still sees regular use, and it may be joined by another at some point - I really like them!

I rather like the wagons in your picture, I could imagine repainting and running some of those!

All the best,

Andrew.

I'd heard of these, but never seen one until now. Yours seems very well-looked-after for it's age.

They are quite robust albeit common faults are losing the steam engine chimney and the fantasy coaches stovepipe chimneys.

Hello Winding Road and Welcome... :welcomeconfetti Just read your thread sorry it's been over a year for me to welcome you. Not had the best time of it then.

Anyway have you been able to do anything with the Faller Hit Train yet. I hope you have had some success, if you have it would be great to see it in action, or even just some more photos. :thumbright:

Take care and stay safe.

Thanks Rod, I have a modest Hit Train layout within my clockword Gauge One layout; I am also preparing an article for the TCS journal. Best wishes, Rick

It finally connected in my head that Faller also make that car system for the smaller scales. I kept hearing about that and the railbus separately, and every time I heard it I wondered where I've heard that name before.

This is as good a time as any to point out the utility of the “add foe” function on this type of forum. It sounds a bit dramatic, but you can use it to quietly eliminate posts by people who chronically have nothing to contribute.

I don't get it, why...there is no harm with anything posted on our forum and if there is the Moderators and Administrators will sort it out. I know from past things  , I do sometimes I admit, put something that's not relevant, so one of the team will say so, which I think is brilliant because we aren't all perfect are we. :thumbright:
