Hi everyone, I am considering scratch building a class 66 in gauge 1. Most of the dimensions I've found online but I can't find the wheel center one anywhere. If anyone can supply me with it I would be most grateful.

Hi again, If any of you own a gauge 1 class 66 could you possibly measure the wheel centers on a. bogie and let me know what they are please. Your help would be much appreciated.

Ron, I don't want to be negative, I'd love to be wrong, and no harm in asking, but I doubt that any of our members would have such a beastie I'm afraid.

Hi, o.k, it was just a thought. I understand considering the cost of one. That's why I intend to scratch build one for myself eventually.

I don't know how to reduce a photo on the Smartie-Phone, and the camera makes it look like the ruler does not line up with the wheel centers.

Across the three axles, is 145mm
They do appear to be equally spaced, so 72.5mm between each.

Please be aware, I have not paid anything like the silly prices, being asked of late.

Thanks very much for that Phil, From the scant info I found I think you are about right with the dimensions. I will try and mock a bogie up in Tinkercad and see what it looks like.

If you come up with a half-decent side-frame, I would be quite interested..
I assume your research has found information on the Aristocraft bogies for these? - Quite a feat of engineering, to get two motors, and three gearboxes, in each. Articulated, as well.

Which of the gauge one scales were you planning on using for this beast?

The dimensions Phil.P quoted seemed a bit big for 10mm:ft scale, so I did some digging. The Class 66 are supposed to be fitted with EMD HTC bogies, in which case a bogie will have a total wheelbase of 13' 7", equally divided. In 10mm scale that works out at 134mm, with wheel centres of 67mm, so the Aristocraft models would appear to have been made to the larger 1:29 scale used in the US.

Graeme, I am indeed modelling in 10mm as always. From what I have found the bogie type used was HTRB Radial. I don't know what the difference is between them and the ones you mention but there does seem to be differing dimensions depending where you look.

On the page I saw for building a 66 they suggested one motor per bogie and delrin chain to connect the other axles. I must say though that was in O gauge but it would work in gauge 1. Alas I didn't bookmark it.
