Quick 3D printed flat wagon

I am sure you all know that I have been messing around with 3D printing. I have a few projects on the go but wanted to try a quick wagon.

This was made from start to finish in 3 hours - that's 2 hours for the chassis to print and then clean it up and then an hour to add the wood top, detail and paint / weather - it was pretty much a heat wave on Sunday so the paint dried almost instantly!







And it starts its new life as a trailer flat on my maintenance train

The wheels are Swift Sixteen - I have a lot in stock - hardly worth printing them, they are pence from SS.....I am unsure how the PLA or ABS would last if printed. Are you going to try wheels?

Got to say that is blooming clever and looks the business. As prices come down will a printer become a normal tool to have?? Quite exciting watching what is being made and how the technology is spreading amongst the hobby.

Agree with Bazzer, this is very interesting to read, and the results are great. I somehow think I'll stay sawing timber, bashing metal, and machining parts for the foreseeable future though.

Jim,

I did think I might try one day when I feel like experimenting, but there are too many 'real' ideas in my head to do first.
Like you I'm doubtful about the robustness of PLA although ABS might be OK, and then of course could possibly go to, say, nylon, although I believe that would need changes to the print nozzles. However, my bigger concern would be the accuracy/roundness, plus, by the time they have been fettled and accurately mounted on axles, I can't see it would be worth the hassle.

I only asked because I could see some nice looking wheels peeking out from under, in your piccys.
