A Mamod In Need Of Mamodification

Post by JoshuaMac2343 » Mon Jul 11, 2016 8:53 pm

First post!!

I've recently purchased a Mamod SL1K from eBay and completed some minor work on it, the engine runs... well... like a Mamod! ( too fast) I was thinking of modifying it and adding RC and to be honest i have little to no idea how to do it!

You can see my Mamod and the Railway it runs on here:

Heres some tips from a total beginner.

I too bought a Mamod, then modded it a lot.

I did the mods in a bit of a random fashion, using the commonly available upgrade parts.
The only original power generating parts left on mine are the cylinders, and they will be next.

I think the first thing to add should be a lubricator as a bit of proper oiling makes it run a lot better.
I added gas burner, uprated safety valve and in-cab proper regulator to mine, but it was still uncontrollable (just with lots more power).
The lubricator transformed it.

RWM steam do a regulator and a lubricator that work together well.
Careful though as the regulator requires an uprated safety valve.
Don't go too mad with safety valves on a standard boiler.
I had a 40psi valve on mine and it was forever blowing out the Perspex gauge glass.

Noel.
