PTLR Sam hac an R/C version. It is great for shuttling between stations while ther rest of the trains are just going round on their own. A nice little runner too!alan2525 wrote:The problem with Railcars is that they just go around on their own, you dont get the nice little train of rollingstock behind them snaking around the corners and the swoosh of their wheels on the rails.

Trying to get back on topic, I have a video of different garden railways which I bought some years ago and it just so happens to have a Locomotion steam railar in the footage!pauly wrote:its all going a bit off topic here aint it
It is very quiet, you can hardly hear the thing running! Railcars aren't for me unless they are standard gauge and carry 'speed whiskers'

I'm back in Glasgow with internet access, so I can now reply to this posting.

I have a single cab version with the dropped vee front, open veranda, driving trailer, and 1 of each style of the centre coaches.

Thus endless combinations are possible.
The photo that andysleigh has grabbed from the Lightlines website ( http://www.lightline16mm.com/Manufactur ... ilbus.html ) is actually not of a current Locomotion railcar/railbus. Possibly an earlier electric version.
Body is mainly 4mm birch plywood with a brass cab front, and mine has been given the Lightlines treatment.

A totally enclosed vertical gas fired boiler mounted on the power unit, supplying steam to a pair of double acting oscillating cylinders which drive the single front axle.

Fitted with a forward/reverse control, pressure gauge, water level gauge, displacement lubricator and boiler filling system (Goodall type or as fitted on mine an optional Enots valve).

It is however much bigger than my Mamod stock.

This was won on ebay as the railbus plus driving trailer, and I was also later offered the 2 coaches by the same seller. It was purchased as I had the money available, but will remain boxed up until I get my railway built, or I've got time in the workshop to give it an overhaul and possibly run at one of the members' days with the West of Scotland 16mm NGM group.
So I've no experience of running this yet, but those I have previously seen running at shows like Merstham did run well. Not found one on YouTube yet!
ACLR - Graham sadly Microsoft Train Simulator like all other Microsoft products is full of bugs, and takes a lot to get it working better. Unlike Flight Simulator, where Microsoft actually bought out the company that made the original Flight Sim programs, they threw the towel in with Train Simulator, so it was not developed further. Have a look at this website to see what is possible ( http://www.uktrainsim.com ). You really need to join to get the best out of the downloads available (free downloads very limited).
However you will find that you cannot just spend 10 minutes playing Train Simulator, and it will seriously eat into your Garden Railway play time. I've not played it for many months now due to other time grabbing opportunities instead.
But look at all the possibilities offered by Locomotion. 2 styles of front, a 2 cab version or one with a rear veranda which can be closed with a solid panel containing two open windows or open with wrought iron style surround. A driving trailer, and 2 styles of centre coach.alan2525 wrote:The problem with Railcars is that they just go around on their own, you dont get the nice little train of rollingstock behind them snaking around the corners and the swoosh of their wheels on the rails.
