Archangel Vale of Rheidol 2-6-2 on ebay

I think it is either a prototype or one rushed out as Merlin went bust as the wheels are not plated, a few details have not been fitted and there are no works plates. It needs a little work but is a good looking big loco.Joe:114523 wrote:thanks for that, looks quite a good looking loco and certainly a bargin!

I don't understand your logic.cncmodeller:114440 wrote:Hi all there is an Archangel Vale of Rheidol 2-6-2 on ebay at the moment, I'm letting everyone know because I'm fed up with people bidding ridiculously high when there is nearly a week to go so hopefully this will encourage more people to bid so they don't stand a chance.
No.cncmodeller:114443 wrote:Let me explain, there are 4 days to run, by bidding high now you're not going to have nobody bidding after you, by raising the price by a big jump now is that all you're doing is making yourself bid higher later. Does that not make sense?
Nobody shows "all their cards at the beginning of the auction". Unless you say ebay is cheating. You can enter the highest amount you want to bid, but your highest bid in the auction will only be a fixed raise higher than the current highest bid. ebay will then auto raise for you if anyone try to bid higher than you.cncmodeller:114507 wrote:I would because as a result of greenhorn ebayers who ramped up the cost by showing all their cards at the beginning of the auction.Great for the seller of course.
Two bidders were both willing to pay more than £3000 and thats the only reason for the high price. The loosing bidder made a lot of bids step by step to find the limit, but gave up. The winner entered the amount of £3000 on the 23 Nov and later increased the amount on 26 Nov. We don't now what the winner actually entered as his (or her

My comments were made through experience time and again, I recently purchased a small CNC machine which rarely come up but are highly prized, there were 8 bidders and the price after about 2 days was £280. I was prepared to pay £700 tops but I knew that they can go up to £1000 -£1500+ I did not bid the full £700 at day 2 but waited. The important thing to remember is that the other bidders did not Know any of this and were content with the price running at £280. If I had bid £700 at day two I would have roused them to a bidding war and stood a good chance of losing it as the auction had another 5 days to go.
Just because somebody has bid at a given price It doesn't mean thay can't change their mind and bid more, I bid the full £700 in the last 15 seconds and won the item for £320.

That is exactly how I bid on ebay.cncmodeller:114544 wrote: I bid the full £700 in the last 15 seconds and won the item for £320.
It has two advantages:
(1) It doesn't give anyone else time to see my bid and top it.
(2) If somebody else is playing the same game and put in a higher top limit than mine, at the same time, it doesn't give ME time to get carried away and hype it above what I've previously decided is my own top limit!

Last second bidding is a strategy that makes sense, butcncmodeller:114544 wrote:I bid the full £700 in the last 15 seconds and won the item for £320.
I still don't understand your previous statements.
Anyway, you don't know if there is an auto bid which is the highest.
If the one with the current highest bid at £280 actually had
typed in a maximum of £1000 your £700 would have been outbid.
And, as already mentioned, if you want to bid on an item
the last thing you should do is post it on a forum.
Unless you are the seller.
Fun fact is that the winner of the Archangel entered the auction
a few hours after your post here, but that might be just a coincident.
BTW: I actually thought last second bidding extended the time by 15 minutes,
but it doesn't. Don't know where I have got that from.
