Accucraft Leader/Excelsior/Mortimer

Post by TLHC » Fri Mar 28, 2014 8:32 pm

For my next Loco I fancy one of these as I love the Talyllyn and one of these would be a great reminder of the line. They all look very similar but what's the main differences and any major pros and cons for the different models, over to you folks for some welcome advice.

Go for an Leader over an Excelsior, Excelsior was Accucraft's first loco and had a number of faults, whilst pretty much every Leader I've seen has been a lovely runner. A Mortimer will most likely be ok as well, but Leader looks nicer IMHO.

Yes great little engine here is mine that I lined in Bowater livery. I wouldn't get an Excelsior unless the cylinders have been changed.

That looks fantastic! You've made me most envious... Would look even better with my bowater wagons behind it

That looks very nice. First time I´ve seen buffer plates lined out, but maybe I haven´t been paying attention

There's an Excelsior on Ebay at the minute with the bigger cylinders and a few other mods.

If I remember correctly, didn't Mr Acton mod a Leader to become Corris number 4? My father and I always thought it looked great!
Apart from the Garratts, TR/Corris number 4 was always a particular favourite of my fathers, infact, a battery powered model of number 4 was his first ever scratch build, in Rev W. Awdry's favourite livery...
