I still think talyllyn or dolgoch might be an option the talyllyn has an anniversary this year and they stopped Tom rolt last year. They still sell Taliesin power bogies. Im trying design a double fairlie on a pair of them. No progress yet though. Id imagine the £4000 mentioned earlier would be right if they did one as the bogies are £630 each

Unless they were to build it to 7/8ths scale...in which case it would have to be 45mm gauge onlyHope Mountain Railway:95530 wrote:I hope for one that Roundhouse don't make an England Engine, unless they consider making it to scale, and that means 32mm gauge only.

because if its not perfectly to scale nobody else who would happily buy it regardless deserves am I right?!Hope Mountain Railway:95530 wrote:I hope for one that Roundhouse don't make an England Engine, unless they consider making it to scale, and that means 32mm gauge only.
Id rather have an off scale England than not at all

Guess it depends how far out it is. I had a look at some photos earlier and I think they would indeed need some horizontal stretching to make them compatible with 45mm track. That said, RH's Linda Blanche and Charles look OK to me from most angles - I'd rather a scale one, but one tweaked about as far as those would be OK by me. If it gets too big though it'd look wrong with FfR stock, which would defeat the object for me...
Cheers,
Andrew.

A while ago I compared the RH basic chassis diagram (on their website) with a 7mm Association England drawing blown up to 16mm and as far as I recall if you hid the upper part of the cylinders under the running plate and sandboxes the overall height could be brought down further and the ride height would be correct too. Not that I'm much of an engineer, so there may well be good reasons not to... Don't recall looking at the width. The gas tank would have to go in the tender I guess, given that the Englands don't share Bertie's dance hall-proportioned cab...laalratty:95556 wrote:Mr Lightlines has built an England loco using a Roundhouse Basic chassis, and it is something like only 2mm taller then scale. Close enough for me, and could presumably be put on a 45mm chassis
The Basic wheels would look OK as "Welsh Pony" (doesn't she have disk wheels?) and it would keep the cost down a little...
Maybe...

They wont bring back any sort of fairlie at all, as talking to them at their open day, the main reason they were being dropped was that one of their chassis can be made in the time it takes for 2 - 3 lady annes. It was the sheer time to put them together.
Something different is on my list. Maybe Axe from the L&B or something VB like Paddy! I would love the WD Hunslet to be done, after all, it is 100 years since WW1 began.
COULD 100 YEARS SINCE WW1 BE THE MAIN THEME THIS YEAR LIKE HOW THE FR WAS LAST!!!!

Amazing that it was 100 years ago and French farmers are still getting their ploughs blown up by shells every year.TTHLRMatt:95562 wrote:They wont bring back any sort of fairlie at all, as talking to them at their open day, the main reason they were being dropped was that one of their chassis can be made in the time it takes for 2 - 3 lady annes. Yep and evermore sources are turning up in GCSE CAU's that are from the modern day about the lasting effects of trench warfare such as the housing developments that were blown sky high when the contractors building a house hit part of a mine field.
I actually got extra marks for mentioning the WD Light Railways in a question about the evolution and advances of trench warfare! I think I may actually do well in the final exam!

No chance of it being an updated Manning Wardle, too much work to update the original. New chassis and valve gear. All Accucraft have to do is change the bodywork fret and add the valvegear/cylinder covers.paullad1984:95518 wrote:Gowrie would be a good bet for a fairlie, outside valvegear and standard roundhouse cylinders.
Then again, how about an updated L&B tank, very popular i should think and a nice alternative to the Accucraft SR version
Gowrie or Beddgelert would be nice.

Tender engines have possibilities, but to be commercially viable it would need to have a reasonable size and wheel arrangement, to allow for a standard boiler and enough adhesion to shift a worthwhile load without equalising beams and other fiddly expensive trickery. Something along the lines of the lamented GRS-exclusive "Gunga-Din" might fit the bill, such as an Indian ZB or RD class, and suitable for home or colonial railways depending on customer choice ("clean" and basic for British-outline, detail package with cowcatchers, double roof, f***off-huge headlamp, W.H.Y.) for The Empire.
Of course my record for predictions is not good though I did get half a point a couple of years ago for right prototype but wrong manufacturer (I suggested an NA but it was Accucraft who made it happen).
