new loco

Post by Matt » Sun Aug 04, 2013 4:23 pm

I've managed to buy a radio controlled roundhouse Lady Ann on ebay.

Image

The loco came from the sadly now closed Whinlatter and Swinside Light Railway which appeared in Garden Rail a few years back. Current plans are to rename her (got a few ideas floating round in my head), and possibly send her off to light line to have her done up in lined-BR black.

So, what do you think?

Dead jealous as she was also on my watchlist. I'm not religious but I made a deal with him above that I gave up Rebecca would he look after a girl in work with cancer. A fair exchange as she has been given a chance but as a bonus I get to follow lady anne anyway. Good luck with the lining, pictures pleeeeease!
Sorry for the strange post, it's just the way things turned out.

Well, nearly 4 months later, I've finally gotten round to naming my Lady Ann (and no, I'm not naming her after a certain lord).

I've called her 'Gwyn Murphet', after the old vicar from my home village who use to take me volunteering on the Laal Ratty when I was at school. I've also put BR crests on, and taken off the roundhouse builders plates. The plan is to send her off in the summer to be detailed up.

Looking good, personally I wouldn't have it lined out just let it get more of a working patina

I think it's kind of like the Porsche 911, it's sort of become synonymous with roundhouse.

I think i will leave it unlined, as there isn't much room between the top of the tanks and the name plates.

Mr Irton Road himself, still to be seen as Irton Road Station Master on certain days during the summer season.
And I know some of what is planned for this loco, should be brilliant when it is completed!

Lovely looking loco - very very nice - I like the BR lion decals. Where did you source these?

Fox transfers. They don't do 16mm scale transfers unfortunately, but the Gauge 1 transfers are suitable. The crests I used come in packs of 6 of 3 different sizes. I used the largest size for Gwyn, but the smaller ones would be more suitable for something like a mamod or a Millie.

Thanks Matt - I have dealt with Fox previously so I will get an order in for some. Many thanks.

Looks nice, there is something about unlined black livery on a small steam engine. I like the BR "Unicycling Lion" on narrow gauge steam. (Mind you I also liked the VoR engines in BR Blue with the double arrow logo but I keep that one quiet. )

I don't know, I don't think the blue VoR looks too bad (especially witha bit of grime).

I think you're right Matt - just as the "off the peg" designs of Hunslet, Peckett and the like just look right in industrial and narrow guage settings, so too does Lady Anne. The RH Lady Anne is an attractive and appropriate looking sort of loco - and so if "it's always a Lady Anne" so much the better. Like the Mamod, I think it's earned its place in Garden Railway history... I'd quite like one myself...

Andrew.

I know of a few fans of Rheidol locos in BR blue, one of the major ones being a member of this forum....
