This is the reply from a recent enquiry

17th May 2013

Dear Sir,

I am writing to you in regard to your recent email, where you expressed an interest in our new ‘O’ Gauge Lilla Kit.

We are presently assembling the prototype model, and expect the kits to become available towards the end of June.

Whilst assembling the prototype model, we have encountered a few technical issues.

First one being the addition of a water gauge, this has proved to be extremely difficult as the gauge really overpowers the back head. To overcome this we are having a dummy backhead manufactured, which will be fitted with two LED’s. The fitting is designed to indicate water level and is powered from a very small battery, position of which to be determined.

The second area of concern is regarding the regulator. It would appear that the regulator for a manual control is different from that used for radio controlling, as we are very anxious to insure that these models are going to be as trouble free as possible.

Would you please advise which type of regulator you wish us to supply with your model.

We are in the process of creating a small brochure for the model covering all details of the locomotive, if it acceptable to you we would like to forward a copy onto you when it is ready.

In the meantime if you require any further information regarding any aspect of the model please don’t hesitate to contact us again.

Kind regards

Geoff Stait

Many thanks Gremlin!

The Swanage Models Lillas, on which the Western Steam version is based I believe, have not been without their problems either.

Happy to help
What sort of problems have they had?
Just feel it's nice to have all the info one can get, the problems aren't normally on the front page of the brochure next to the price tag.

I'm not to sure how Geoff is getting on at the moment. I know he has had issues with redesigning the valve gear as to original valve gear fails to run in reverse among other problems. I will be getting dad to chase him up as to how things are coming as I want Lilla back, and if he has sorted the valve gear I will be getting a set of that aswell. If not I will only be running in forward gear to start with.

The issues regarding the regulator come from how much you need to open it in order to actually get the loco running. Fine running manual, but Rc or is not as simple.

Fitting the water gauge is difficult as with forward/reversing lever and gas tank and lubricator there is little to no room left.

Hope this helps to clear things up. I know the models are stunning and Geoff will be making a great job of them when they are ready.

Sounds like it's all in hand to get it right, I'm sure people would prefer that and accept a delay rather than a loco that might cause problems.
I can imagine the lack of space doesn't help.

When I get Lilla back I will post photos so you can see what it might look like :)

Think (as I'm impatient and can't get enough time in the workshop at the moment) I'm going to make a battery powered version of covertcoat out of plasticard... Anyone else got any further with their hunslets?

I'm still at the design stage with mine, but I do now have a 3D printer
which will be very useful for making all those fiddly little detailing
bits.

Fairly fine, down to 100 micron layers, I'm doing some test pieces at the moment, detailing bits and bobs for a diesel outline loco that I'm
hoping to sell as a kit.
