IP Jane safety valve

Post by listerboy » Wed May 22, 2013 12:12 am

My IP Jane isn't producing enough steam to turn the wheels when up on blocks.  The safety valve blows off OK.  I was told that the valve is adjustable by turning the small tip on the top?  I intend to get a pressure gauge.  What is the pressure on a Jane?

Thanks

Is this a newly acquired IP Jane? If so and it has not been run for a while you will find the 'O' ring pistons will be very stiff to move. If you can remove the cylinders from their backplates try injecting or sucking some light oil into the cylinders to free up those 'O' rings. Then they will work better on 460 steam oil.

IP Jane safety valve should be set around 40 PSI. This Topic shows my IP Jane safety valve and the circlip pliers I use to adjust the setting - http://gardenrails.myfreeforum.org/about6359.html

Here is how I fitted a pressure gauge to my IP Jane with a banjo bolt and syphon fitted to the top of the sight glass fitting. Not all IP Jane's boilers have a removable plug fitted there.
