5th Anniversary of the Afonglas and Nant Llywyd

Post by laalratty » Sat Dec 15, 2012 9:23 pm

The annual Christmas steamup on the Afonglas and Nant Llywyd Railway was a special affair, since it celebrated the 5th anniversary since the opening of my line as a continuous run. It barely seems 5 years since trains first started going round without having to run round at Afallen or propel the train in reverse. This steamup saw a much greater variety of locos and rolling stock then the opening, as NWAG members who have themselves joined since my line opened, together with those there before me came together. I think there was barely a moment between 12.00 and 16.00 when there wasn't at least two trains out on the line! In fact, I only managed to get one run in myself in between the visiting locos

First out was Matt with Whinlatter, which got in early whilst it was quiet

Next came IMRshaun and Francis who double headed with Rhoda and Corrie on a long train of IMR stock, some of it fresh out of the works

Soon the PTLR staff turned up, Simon had bought his Lyn for another visit

SLRmidge decided to re-create one feature of the opening day with his cattle train

James meanwhile had turned up and hour late due to failings by Notwork Fail just outside York. Snowdon was soon steamed up, renamed Damien for the day....

PTLRsam bought along the first loco he bought to a steamup here, the Archangel Sgt Murphey

Finally, just before 15.00 I managed to get Gwydion out on the line with a recreation of the opening train

After this full madness broke out as the Archangel New Mill on loan to the PTLR double headed with the Lynmouth and Barnical Bay's Locobox Garratt Hellvellyn

As the day drew to a close the garratt went solo
A big, big thank you to everyone who attended and made the day a great success. I should say James also bought along Britomart which finally decided to have a "good" day at an NWAG steamup and put in a very solid performance. Dolmur Goch was also bought along but after towing Damien effortlessly it then decided to sulk!

It was indeed a grand day out.
There was even a nasty derailment very near to the first such recorded incident all those years ago !

I have to say it was a cracking day! Despite the guys at Colton Jcn finding drinking tea more important than running passenger services.... anyhow, here a few pics from me!

When I arrived the PWay were all ready out on duty with Laalratty on call

Whilst in the mean time PTLRcecil makes another break for it with Gwydion!

To make up for the lack of mamod pictures from laalratty, here's a load of Britomart

Great pics there guys.

Thanks to Laalratty for a great open day. Sorry I haven't pics to show, my camera died before I could take any.
