I am inclined to agree with you on this. I did consider it but decided not to. Apart from the cab interior and rear bufferbeam its done. All I have got to do now is finish the IP carriages I bought to go with it, and build/find somewhere to run them!Endless, Nameless:70476 wrote:Red boiler bands might be nice but personally I think it's spot on as it is- it's quite possible to over egg the pudding.

That is very nice indeed. You know, until just now I thought it would be a mistake to paint the dome and the boiler bands: I do love shiny brass. But now I believe I agree with you, it looks better painted. It looks more like a real engine and less like a decoration. Maybe polishing all the brass bits IS like "over egging the pudding". Very interesting, and something I shall consider if/when I build another engine kit. My engine presently has lots of brass. I don't think I'll paint it over, but will certainly think about it on the next one.
What IP coaches have you bought? I have some pedantic advice: take the extra time to seal, paint and decorate the interiors. It makes them so much nicer, and that engine should have really nice coaches to go with it.
I envy that you live in the UK and can probably find a place to run it with little hassle. Maybe you have a neighbor with a railway and all you have to do is join an association to find out who it is. I am probably five hundred miles from any garden railway myself, and haven't any property big enough for any kind of railway. I did set up a railway once on an island, but it was queen's land, and of course though Her Majesty didn't seem to mind the railway being there, it attracted too much attention from ne'er-do-wells and I dismantled it before the track could be vandalised.
Anyway, nice engine!!

Nah. Shiny domes are still nice, but less so when every locomotive in the world has one. If you're making it look like a real one which has a shiny dome, then I reckon it would look fine shiny. I like the shiny one on mine.dougrail:70484 wrote:ALWAYS paint the dome, I sez. My new Caradoc looks more genuine with a matching green dome
My TR/GWR Caradoc, your Penrhyn Ragleth [which is FANTASTIC btw chap] - who's next?

Thanks for the nice comments guys. The IP carriages I bought are the 3 compartment freelance, 2 compartment/brake freelance, and I snapped a ready made penrhyn carriage off eBay for around £15 which was nice!
As for Penrhyn locos and Brass domes, I have a Charles on order for the end of the year and apart from the lining job and my own name I will be leaving it more or less as-is...
