Hiya,
Seriously considering of building one of these, but have some questions (

)
Since a can't silver solder, and never tried it, or probaly will not try it soon, is there any commercial boilers I can use?
The next problem is the cylinders, what cylinders could I use?
I'm also stuck on the regulator

Help, calling Dan

Thanks
Jack

Dan isn't in at the moment but if you would like to leave a message..... The boiler is very small so unfortunatly none of the comercial boilers will fit. The cylinders are avaliable from Mamod suppliers, the ones to fit the SE3. The regulator is very different from what you will have come across before so i will take a picture of the complteted item. If there are any other views you want just say

I supose you could get a company like cheadar vally steam to make one, you could always get a quote by just sending them the drawing. Below is a picture of the regulator. I am doing my best to write some constuction notes but they are taking a while

Cheers, but I seem not be able to see the picture! Might start with a loco with a standard mamod boiler like the tram in SMT, and leave this for a little bit (but not long, might start on frames ect...), as my dad has been looking in to silver soldering

Thanks

You might have to give it a while as i have only just uploaded it. I had been wondering how the loco was driven where clearences were tight. Do you have a picture of someone on the footplate Dave ?

Here are a few photos taken at Amerton farm in 2003. The crew were ducking down out of the way of the exhaust steam and smoke as the loco worked hard up the bank out of the station. The third member of the crew was hanging on the back rail in the first two photos.
Note colour the same as Dante

WOW, after looking for pictures of this loco for ages, 3 appear on here, thanks for posting

I'd probally have to admit it is one of my all time favourite locos, favourite colour for a loco and a good name

Would the forum loco be adpatable to this?
Thanks
Jack

I cant see any reason that you could not make a loco like this, just add the wing tanks. Thanks for the pictures Dave, it does look like i got the loco quite close to scale when you look at this picture.

Would anyone be interested in laser cut parts for the following for Dante:
Front and rear footplate.
Frames and buffer beams.
I haven't asked Dan yet, as it would be better to get an idea of interest in a set of these.
I won't be getting quotes for the body panels, as this leaves you free to do what you want for the body.
Once I have an idea of quantity, I'll start getting some quotes and Dan's permission.

Laser cutting isnt expensive really by any means.. I certainly would like a set. Once the CAD is drawn its there and useable.

Just stumbled upon this thread and would love to throw my hat/support in. This looks like a great little project. From the looks of things so far, I feel reasonably confident I could tackle this and teach myself any skills I'm missing. Has anyone made an attempt at this yet or started?

As far as I know only the original is complete and running but Will (made-in-england) has made a very good start on one.

Well if this does progress any further I am quite keenly interested.
EDIT: You know, the more I look at this the more I think I might just give it a shot. Sure, there's a few things I don't know how to do, but how do you learn if you don't try, eh? I figure - and maybe it's the madness of being stuck at a desk right now talking - if I start on the boiler and while working on that I decide it's out of my league, what's the worst that could happen? I "waste" a few dollars on learning how to build a boiler. I've wasted more money on worse things. A trip to Home Depot may be in order...
Or I'll think about it some more and get scared off.
Could go either way.
