Build is well ahead of schedule ... these wheels have a protruding centre boss that are perfect for fitting cranked con-rods. If I have time left at the end I will have a bash at fitting a set.

yay, now you need green rims and it will be fantastic! Are you building this as a pressy for someone?
I am sure they will be really chuffed if so. Or would that be pshh-t-cuffed?

I'm imagining Ivor gone to the Ffestiniog and modified to an 0-4-2
to improve stability, oh and a tender too!
These Ivors are looking great, perhaps one day I might have a go taking the measurements from my Harrop resin model! :D

Ivor gets running in trials today. Loco itself is finished and partly lined out, just the splashers to detail and the side tanks to letter and line. Those parts need to be clear coated as well because presently are still in matt coat. I need to collect the organ pipe whistles (which have been fettled by someone else) so they will need to be fitted later as well (I may make a new set from brass though). I did the lining by cutting 1mm strips of automotive vinyl ... very tedious and a strain on these old eyes.

Most of the delay was sorting out the paint match. I was going to use the original locolines overlays and bought various greens I thought would be close. LNER Darlington Green looked good but with two coats it turned out too dark. The Railmatch acrylic though did give a very good finish and adhered well to the plasticard (which is more than I can say for the Tamiya acrylic rubbish) so was used as a base coat.
I eventually found a matching shade at a craft shop ... DecoArt Leaf Green. However when applying the overlays (which had been delaminated from the original cardboard), the overlay paper itself delaminated and the coloured face turned to mush. All of the overlays had to be junked and would now have to be hand decorated.
As the Leaf Green looked too light anyway, I finally decided on DecoArt Shamrock Green. The finish of these paints is matt and goes on well over an undercoat.

Thanks chaps. The chap who I am building it for has asked for the side rods not to be fitted as it could be a problem on the day if the wheels go out of quarter for any reason on the weekend. He wants the brass window spectacles rather than the printed decals and the brass option on the organ pipes rather than the included resin ones.

Testing still found Ivor to be light on the front despite all the extra ballast at the front but managed to pull two heavyweight Playmobil test coaches (on the flat of course).

It was steam gala weekend at GC over last two days and lots of people witnessed the test run of Ivor. Unfortunately we had a bit of an accident when the bloke operating a Santa Fe F7 consist forgot Ivor was pootling around light loco on the same track and rammed him off the rails which also derailed the Santa Fe train. A freight consist coming the other way ran into the derailment and we had a right mess. Ivor fell on the inside of the curve and so escaped much damage.

Here is Ivor on haulage trials prior to the incident.

Just bought some rub on "Letraset" inkjet paper. It has made a first class job of the lettering on the side tanks but the yellow lining hasn't come out very well (back to the tedious vinyl lining then) .... watch me mess it up with the clear coat. BTW the lettering is "Rockwell" standard font set to bold.

Nearly there. Just the organ pipes and brass window spectacles to fit and I will be handing Ivor over ! ..... oh, and the front handrail and a bit of coal to the bunker.
The decorative work on the splashers was done with a gel pen from stationery shop. Not ideal but it has sort of done the job.

Although I wasn't happy with the Locolines kit, it did provide the basic measurements to be transfered to plasticard with slight dimension alterations as described earlier. Also, without the Locolines kit giving me some inspiration, this plasticard version would never have been built.

Well, it's finished (thank goodness). Handed it over to the Model Railway Club yesterday .... hope they look after it !!!

It is quite small .... 7 inches long / 6 inches high / 3 inches wide .... and this pic shows that.
